This was an ambitious project; unfortunately, our participation didn’t continue beyond the prototype stage.
An electronic device based on IoT (Internet of Things) was developed, combining GPS + GPRS/3G to geolocate each container and transmit its fill level to a cloud server responsible for managing the data from all units.
There were plans to add solar panels in the future for full autonomy. For now, they ran on rechargeable lithium batteries, providing an estimated autonomy of 6–8 months.
Personally, I consider it a revolutionary and innovative idea, with a tremendous impact not only environmentally but also socially.
